What is a rationale?

A rationale is a set of reasons or a logical basis for a course of action or belief.

My rationale

The genre thriller was given to us by our teacher but we all decided as a class that we would use the medical sub-genre as it was one that can be twisted to different ideas, for example, it could include things that range from zombies to a simple experiment gone wrong. We also decided to use the medical sub-genre because it was the easiest one for us to be able to do due to the science rooms that were available to us in school and the fact that we could book one room for us to film in so we don’t get interrupted by other people around the school, like we would have if we were filming in the open spaces in the school.

As a group, we all decided on one plot that would match the genre we had chosen. The plot we all decided on was that opening would include Laila who is making a mysterious solution that she pours onto Matty’s arm in order to test it and see how well it works or if it works at all, which causes him to have a reaction and his skin begins to burn. The reason why we chose to do this plot is because we have access to all the science equipment that we would need as we are shooting in the science rooms, as well as, having Carly who is able to do all the burns and infections due to the SFX.

Due to the fact that we chose to do a medical thriller, most people decided that we would use the lab coats and goggles that are supplied to us, the reason we chose to use these was because due to the fact we are filming in a school environment, these things are already supplied to us which means we wouldn’t have to look for them or pay for them. As well as costume, we decided to use the props that are already in the science rooms, which include, beakers and syringes. We decided to use these because...

One reason why we all chose Matty and Laila to be the main characters in our movie opening is because they are the two most reliable people in the class who are in school more than any other people in the class, meaning they will hardly miss any of the class and will always be in for the filming days. Another reason why we chose to use them is because they were the most confident out of everyone in the class to appear on camera, whereas everyone else seemed reluctant towards the idea.

After deciding on the genre, we all knew that we would need some type of makeup done to make it look more realistic which is why we chose Carly to do it as she takes an interest in SFX makeup and is the most skilled in it out of everyone in the class. As well as being the most skilled, she is also the most reliable in the class as she is in everyday and hardly misses any lessons unless there is an important reason, this is a good thing because it means she will never miss a filming day or the lesson unless there is an important reason that will have been arranged in advance so we all know about it.

A proposal is a plan or suggestion that is put forward for consideration by others.

My proposal

For this project, we were told to make a thriller film opening and although the genre thriller was given to us, as a class we all decided to do the medical sub-genre, as collectively we all felt like this was the easiest for us to do because of everything we had available in school.

After deciding on what sub-genre we were doing, we all came together and decided who would be the main actors for this film opening and ultimately we decided that both Laila and Matty would be the main characters because they were most confident to be on camera.

​

Having chose to do the medical thriller sub-genre, we all decided it wold be best for us to do the filming in school to save us having to find time to shoot outside of school when everyone wasn’t busy when we could just film in school because mostly everyone would be here. We collectively came together and decided that we would be filming in one science lab but we could use a different one if we really needed to.

After getting our location and our actors we knew that we needed to have props and costumes to make it look more realistic and come together more. After going down to the science block, we decided that we were going to use the beakers and the lab coat that was available for us. Once we had fully planned out what the plot was going to be, we needed to get a syringe and some food colouring, which was easy to access but this also added to our budget because we had to buy this ourselves.

Once everything else was sorted, we came together and decided that we wanted to have some type of makeup done on Matty to make it more believable and luckily we had Carly in our class who was able to do that. We sat down and talked with Carly about what could be done and we decided that we wanted some burns on him to make it look like he had been infected as well as making his veins look more prominent.
