Sell lines:
One of the sell lines for the Cosmopolitan magazine is 'You're single- WHY?'. For this to be on the front page, it suggests that in this magazine there will be a few pages dedicated to people 'finding out' why they are still single.
Both magazines use the sell lines to not only draw the reader in by making it bold and colourful but they also use it to inform the reader what they are going to be reading about.
One of the sell lines for the Vogue magazine is 'Summer style'. This shows that in the magazine there will be a section dedicated to helping people discover what is the new trends for summer and help them to wear and find it.
Mastheads
The masthead for the Cosmopolitan magazine is bright and colourful to attract all the readers. Although it is bright and colourful, the writer is hidden behind the chosen models head, the fact it is hidden, suggests that the readers are aware with the magazine and don't need the whole word to know what it is called because of how popular it is.
The masthead for the Vogue magazine is usually very bland but it attracts the reader by how big and bold the font is. The masthead has been placed over the models head which suggests that the name of the magazine is more important to this brand and it isn't as popular with younger readers.
Both of these magazines have made their mastheads in a bold text which could suggest that they want their magazines to be the first ones that are noticed.
Direct Address
The Cosmopolitan magazine uses many different modes of direct address to attract the reader. One way they use direct address is by having the model, Ashley Benson, looking straight at the camera as if she is looking directly at the readers. Another way that this magazine uses direct address is by having the sell lines including words such as 'You're' which implies they want the reader to feel like the magazine is talking directly to them.
Both of these magazines use direct address as a way of making the reader feel like the creators of the magazine are talking directly to them and want them to read the magazine to find out what is in there.
Vogue magazine also uses direct address but instead of using words to address the reader, the magazine uses the model, Ariana Grande to look directly at the reader to draw them in and it makes them want to read it more.
